A travel company has refused to refund money to Moscow residents for a trip to South Africa that was canceled due to the war in Iran.

In January, Inna purchased a 10-day tour to South Africa (from March 7 to March 16) from the company RESET TRIP for €4,500. She paid a deposit of 255,000 rubles, while the remaining amount was supposed to be paid in cash upon arrival in Cape Town, Inna told Ostorozhno, Novosti in an interview.

Following the company’s advice, the Moscow resident independently purchased a flight ticket with a layover in Dubai. However, due to the escalation in the Middle East and attacks on the UAE, she returned the ticket. Other tourists who had bought tickets with a layover in Qatar had their flights canceled, Inna said.

The tour company suggested that the women fly via Ethiopia instead, but with an additional payment of 200,000 rubles for the ticket. They refused and demanded a refund of the tour deposit. According to the contract, RESET TRIP could only deduct part of the expenses related to organizing the trip. The next day, Inna received a letter stating that the money would not be refunded because the company had allegedly already spent 311,000 rubles on her—more than she had paid—and attached a report on the organization of the safari and meals that never took place.

“They sent us a report without any supporting documents, claiming that we still owed money to the agent. We asked for proof of the expenses, but for a week now they haven’t provided anything,” Inna said.

Immediately afterward, according to her, representatives of RESET TRIP removed the three tourists from their group chat and blocked them. The women plan to file a collective lawsuit in court.
